Umbrella Dance Programme

Where the tools and opportunities of dance are developed.

A division of the Quinte Ballet School of Canada, the Umbrella Dance Programme, offers dance classes to the Quinte area for students ages 4 to adult. Our classes include Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Ballroom as well as other dance disciplines.

The staff of the Umbrella Dance Programme is a dedicated group of individuals, who have studied all types of dance. They are eager to pass on their experience and knowledge of the art of dance. We strive to help our students have a positive and rewarding experience, whether they are aiming for a professional career or dancing for the pure fun and enjoyment that it brings.

Having an opportunity to perform is an important element of the programs provided by the Umbrella Dance Programme. Each year, students enrolled in the School have the opportunity to show family and friends what they've learned, as they take part in our year end "Festival" performance at Centennial Secondary School. Our students have also been involved in various community presentations throughout the area.

The Umbrella Dance Prigramme and the Quinte Ballet School of Canada are located at 196 Palmer Road, beside Centennial Secondary School. The 20,000 square foot building offers the most up to date dance facilities including six large, climate controlled studios, a lounge area and change rooms for students of the Umbrella Dance Programme. All Ballet classes are accompanied by an accomplished pianist and our state of the art sound system makes Jazz, Tap and Hip Hop a blast!

Information about our programs, including a brief description of each class, a calendar of events, dress code and a fee schedule is included below. If you have any questions about the UDP, please contact us at 613-962-9274 extension 23 or email us at udp@qbsc.ca.

We hope that you will join us for an exciting year of dance!

EARLY DANCE: This class is designed for 3-6 year olds and is a one or two year program. The children explore movement through music rhythm, sounds and speech. They travel a path of exploration and development using their bodies as their tool. Our goal is to help introduce movement skills, body control, spatial awareness and creative expression. We are gradually laying the groundwork for dance or any other related discipline that requires coordination, focus, social interaction and creativity.

EARLY DANCE II: 5-6 years old

BALLET, ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE: Three aspects of dance, Classical Ballet, Character Dance and Free Movement combine to give the young dancers a thorough understanding of the first principals of dance. Classical Ballet places its emphasis on the development of ballet technique, Character Dance teaches the dancers about the intricacies of Hungarian and Russian dance, while Free Movement develops the freedom which comes with spatial awareness and physical control. Two ballet classes per week are required for all students participating in exams.
