A Bridge For You

The Quinte Ballet School of Canada is excited to announce the launch of the Post Graduate Program.

Why?

Are you ready or almost ready to enter the professional dance world? Are you a graduating student who is looking for additional support and experience to help work your way into the professional milieu? This unique program is designed to be that bridge for you.

Who is eligible?

Students who have completed their Secondary School Diploma are eligible to pursue a further period of dance study in the Post Graduate Program (up to 2 years).

How is the progam structured?

The program is set up in 2 stages:

Stage 1 runs full time from September to June and involves Summer Dance during the month of July.

Stage 2 offers the option of 1 to 3 terms.  Each is approximately 3 months.  With the recommendation of the artistic faculty, the students can choose the length of their program.

Highlights of this program:

  • Mentorship throughout the program
  • Work with choreographers within the program
  • Research companies, choreographers and dance institutions that are appealing to the students
  • Apprenticeship opportunities and/or workshops with companies and choreographers
  • Create a professional and attractive resume with photographs
  • Research and interpret solos in different dance styles
  • Create a professional DVD to send to companies and/or present at auditions
  • Learn professional work habits and standards expected in a professional setting
  • The student will be welcome to take classes, share his/her experience, and/or be mentored again at QBSC once their career is launched

Students will also research and put together a project intended to further their professional development. One component involves partnerships with dance companies and choreographers. Post-graduate students apply to work in a company setting as an intern, apprentice or observer for short periods through the year. This involves learning about a company or choreographer that they are interested in and then creating an agenda to spend time gaining knowledge and experience from that professional exposure. QBSC assists in making contact with companies and choreographers and setting up short term apprenticeships.

The purpose of offering a post graduate program is to better prepare the dancer for a promising career, regardless if the dancer is a QBSC graduate or from elsewhere. The need for additional professional development after graduation is recognized by many in the dance field. This opportunity is offered to advanced students and young professionals to continue their training in a program that acts as a bridge for them as they make their next steps into the professional world.
