Don't Wait in the Wings

This is the life…

Your experience as a student at the Quinte Ballet School of Canada is fast-paced, dynamic, exciting and fun.  Known as the "friendly city", Belleville offers big city amenities along with small town friendliness, and a pleasing mixture of the historic and modern.

Where do I go to School?

Your academic needs as a full-time student are met by the Hastings & Prince Edward District School Board.  Students enrolled in elementary school attend Sir Mackenzie Bowell.  High School students attend Centennial Secondary School

What is a typical day like?

Most days for QBSC students go something like this...

6:30am - Wake up and get ready for academic school

8:00am - Start academic classes

12:00pm - Lunch Break

1:00pm - Walk to QBSC

1:30pm - Ballet class

3:00pm - Pointe Class

4:00pm - Yoga, Conditioning, Modern, Flamenco, Music, Anatomy, Dance History (depending on the day)

5:00pm - Repertoire or Rehearsal during performance season

6:30pm - Go home, eat dinner, do homework and sleep!

Saturdays – Hip Hop, Jazz and Choreography follow Ballet class

Where do I live?

Our student-living program is carefully designed to be as close to living at home as possible. Students live with billets who are local families that are screened by QBSC.  Your billet is a supportive 'family' who understands the demands of your dance training and is there to care for and support you.  Please see Billet System for more information.

What if I have a hard time being away from home?

Each year, a "buddy system" is organized for first year students to provide a support network for new students to help ease their transition away from home.  Members of the Student Support Team are also available to help with the adjustment.

Will there be field trips?

As part of the students’ education, field trips to see live performances are planned. Students also participate in outreach programs within the community which help to promote a better understanding of dance for the public.

What do our students say?

"I love my billets! They live close to the School and they are wonderful people. They are supportive to us as dancers and understand the demands of our daily schedules. I feel like I'm at home and part of the family"

"Any student entering QBSC cannot leave without feeling a sense of accomplishment and self improvement. There is a strong sense of companionship, support and teamwork between the students. The teachers are supportive and inspiring. We benefit from exposure to a variety of guest teachers. QBSC is unique in its ability to offer full-time training and still allow the benefit of interaction with a regular secondary school program."

"Belleville is a great connection between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal while still maintaining its 'small town' quality. There is plenty to do to keep busy with and enjoy."

"I was in The Nutcracker for the first time here and I have so many wonderful memories from the experience. I have also had the opportunity to work with amazing guest teachers and choreographers and I learned Repertoire from well known companies like Kidd-Pivot."

"My billets are so kind and helpful. They take a genuine interest in what goes on at the Ballet School and also in my life. They make sure I am able to have fun and enjoy the social life of a typical teenager."
