Our Mission
QBSC provides a safe and creative community that will produce young people with the strong characteristics needed to be leaders not only in the dance industry, but also in the community at large.
Our Vision
Aspiring toward excellence, the Quinte Ballet School of Canada (QBSC) supports and inspires dancers to follow their dreams. QBSC provides a safe and creative community that will produce young people with the strong characteristics needed to be leaders not only in the dance industry, but also in the community at large.
Our Approach
QBSC’s curriculum is focused on empowering students to take responsibility for their work and their careers. The QBSC faculty offer their knowledge and passion for dance to their students, helping them to realize their potential. We encourage our students to have a responsible attitude towards their work in all classes and respect themselves and others. The training focuses on building a sound classical ballet technique, while exposing students to a variety of other dance styles to ensure versatility.
Professional Training Program Overview
Our curriculum focuses on providing sound classical ballet training balanced with ongoing classes in other dance styles and techniques to produce a well prepared young dancer. QBSC accepts aspiring young dancers entering academic grades 7 – 12. Students are placed in a level of the Professional Training Program based on age, ability and their academic grade that coincides with the dance curriculum offered at the Quinte Ballet School of Canada.
Students at the Quinte Ballet School of Canada receive training in the many styles of dance. Using ballet as the base, classes in the various forms inform, challenge and strengthen their bodies. Students are required to take the full program appropriate for their level. The curriculum will include the following: ballet technique, pointe, boy’s work, modern, jazz, hip hop, classical repertoire, contemporary, conditioning, and additional workshops led by guest teachers.
Repertoire is adapted from the classics to teach corps de ballet and soloist work and all students explore choreography with their teachers in modern, jazz, hip hop, flamenco and contemporary ballet. Students also receive exposure to the art form by travelling to see performances by touring ballet companies and participating in master classes.
